The relationships between gross motor coordination and sport-specific skills in adolescent non-athletes

Abstract: Purpose. While the usefulness of gross motor coordination score as predictor of sports performance in young athletes has been demonstrated, practical applications in the settings where the focus is not on elite performance is limited. Further, little is known about the extent to which gross motor coordination score is associated with sport-specific skills among adolescent nonathletes. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between the degree of gross motor coordination and execution in specific … Show more

“…A study by Daniel V. Chagas, John Ozmun, & Luiz Alberto Batista (2017) shows that when mastering the technique of playing volleyball, coordination skills are of paramount importance, this is confirmed by our data. It was found that the increase in vestibular stability significantly increased such parameters as seizures in 30 seconds, transfer of the ball in pairs, impact and catching ball from the course and others.…”

“…In recent years, many scientists have focused on understanding the concept of "coordination abilities" (Bolotin, & Bakayev, 2018, Bykova, 2017. It is proved that the development of coordination abilities should be an integral part of the training process (Chagas, Ozmun, & Batista, 2017;Doroshenko, 2013), as their level determines the level of technical preparedness of athletes (Deprez, Fransen, Lenoir, Philippaerts, & Vaeyens, 2015;Nicole, & Nicole, 2017).…”

“…A study by (Chagas, Ozmun, & Batista, 2017) shows that when mastering the technique of playing volleyball, coordination skills are of paramount importance, this is confirmed by this data which demonstrates the importance of both rhythm and movement combining abilities to achieve a good performance level of fencing skills. (El-Sayed, 2006) pointed out that coordination abilities emanate from the requirements of skill performance, and do not appear as individual abilities but are always connected to each other, to serve the harmonious composition of the overall movement, If these abilities are coordinated, the highest level of general kinetic compatibility, required to perform precisely motor skills and motor control, can be achieved.…”

“…Notwithstanding, owing to the tGMd-2 popularity, construct, content, and concurrent validity have also been determined for children aged 3-10 years in the tGMd-2 [35,36], in addition to the development of a third iteration of the test. therefore, further work must seek to expand on the present study's promising results, and ascertain whether reliability and validity are retained across ages [37], whether actual results are concordant with the perceived skill level [38], and whether participation in sports concomitantly improves manipulative skills [39]. observing all tests individually, reviewing the average values and other descriptive parameters of all six newly constructed tests, we can confirm very high sensitivity of these parameters; following analysis of mean values and comparison across all measurements, we found that the obtained results were stable.…”
