This work explores the feasibility of acoustic gas thermometry (AGT) in the range 700 K to the copper point (1358 K) in order to more accurately measure the differences between ITS-90 and the thermodynamic temperature. To test material suitability and stability, we investigated microwave resonances in argon-filled cylindrical cavities machined from a Ni-Cr-Fe alloy. We measured the frequencies of five non-degenerate microwave modes of one cavity at temperatures up to 1349 K using home-made coaxial cables and antennas. The short-term repeatability of both the measured frequencies f N and the scaled half-widths g N /f N was better than 10 −6 f N. Oxidation was not a problem while clean argon flowed through the cavity. The measurement techniques are compatible with highly accurate AGT and may be adaptable to refractive index gas thermometry.

The mechanism of performance of hydrocarbon waxes used as external lubricants in typical PVC pipe formulations is not completely understood or defined. This study will benefit pipe manufacturers to tailor PVC processing conditions and wax addition levels to enhance the value of waxes with different molecular architectures in Sn-stabilized PVC formulations. A selection of waxes was comprehensively analyzed to understand how their structural and morphological differences impact the fusion behavior of a Sn-stabilized PVC compound. Results showed a high probability of fusion for waxes with melting points between 65 and 80 °C and a kinematic viscosity (at 135 °C) of less than 5 cSt across all experimental temperatures and concentration levels tested. The general probability of fusion increased with increasing temperature and decreasing wax concentration. Wax compositional differences only had a large impact on PVC fusion at lower experimental temperatures and high wax concentrations. The stable time and onset of degradation were found to be sensitive to experimental temperature but less so to wax concentration. High melting waxes had the lowest fusion torque but a narrow operating window in terms of concentration and temperature for a successful fusion to occur. Overall, fully refined paraffin waxes had the widest operating window and were less sensitive to a change in the wax concentration and experimental temperature than the rest of the waxes that were tested.

O presente estudo consiste em uma revisão integrativa da literatura, a qual teve por objetivo avaliar os preditores genéticos de suscetibilidade a vasculopatia cerebral na doença falciforme. Foram selecionados 15 artigos em bases de dados, por meio de descritores em português e em inglês: anemia falciforme, genética médica, artérias cerebrais e doenças arteriais cerebrais, utilizando os operadores booleanos “AND” ou “OR”. A pesquisa ocorreu em dezembro de 2022. As evidências apontam que a vasculopatia cerebral é uma complicação potencialmente grave das principais síndromes falciformes em crianças com anemia falciforme, sendo a forma clínica mais severa e frequente. A associação de um perfil de risco genético hemolítico com história de acidente vascular cerebral enfatiza o papel hemolítico no processo fisiopatológico da vasculopatia cerebral. Mecanismos de como o aumento da hemólise pode levar a vasculopatia cerebral e acidente vascular cerebral incluem redução de biodisponibilidade de óxidos, levando ao aumento da resistência vascular e regulação positiva de moléculas de adesão vascular (por exemplo, VCAM1, E-selectina), anemia mais grave no cenário de comprometimento cerebrovascular capacidade de reserva, e maior ativação da coagulação. A relação entre genes e a vasculopatia na doença falciforme sugere novos alvos terapêuticos potenciais para intervenção. O espectro clínico variável da doença é consequência de múltiplos eventos e suscetibilidade genética que vai além da ocorrência de uma única substituição de aminoácido na cadeia beta globina da hemoglobina.
