Regarding exploitation and optimizing fisheries resources management in Tomini Bay, the Layang scad fish (Decapterus russelli, Ruppell 1830) is one of the small pelagic fishes inhabiting the bay that still lacks biological information. The species becomes the main target commodity for local fishers as it is commonly consumed as a protein source for coastal communities. This study aimed to determine the length-weight relationships and the growth pattern of Layang fish caught by fishers from Tomini Bay. The samples were collected once per month at Gorontalo City Fish Landing Spot from April to June 2020. Tomini Bay was confirmed as the fishing ground of all the landed fish. Layang is caught by Mini purse seines with a minimum mesh size of ¾ inch. A total of 896 samples of Layang fish were collected randomly from the fishers' catch during their unloading activity at the landing site. Abdomen dissection was performed on all samples for determining the fish’s sex. The fish samples' total length and body weight were measured using a ruler (nearest = 1 mm) and a scale (nearest = 0.01 gram). The result revealed that the length-weight equation of male Layang was W = 0.000004 L3.1972 (R2 = 97.57%), and that of female was W = 0.0000007 L3.0613 (R2 = 98.99%). This result implied a positive allometric growth pattern, excluding the females in April 2020.

The fish population in waters can decrease due to the uncontrolled utilization of fish resources. Food is one of the determining factors for the population and condition of fish in the waters. Considering the economic and ecological importance of the yellow trevally in food webs, this research was conducted to analyze the feeding habits and biological aspects of the yellow trevally in Pesisir Lekok. This study used a descriptive data analysis with complete randomized design. The research was conducted from May to July 2023 at Pesisir Lekok, Pasuruan, East Java. The results showed that the yellow trevally is carnivorous with the dominant food found being zooplankton from the genus Microcalanus sp. with a frequency of occurrence of 41%. The highest plankton composition found in the stomach of the yellow trevally was the phytoplankton of the Aulacoseira genus, which was 22.2%. Meanwhile, the foods most preferred by the yellow trevally are Rotifera and Charophyta with an index value of +1. The biological aspect of the yellow trevally seen from the length-weight relationship shows that the growth pattern of the yellow trevally is negative allometric with a b value of 2.651. While the condition factor range average values are 1.009 – 1.027. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for efforts to support the sustainable management of fisheries resources, especially the yellow trevally in the coastal waters of Lekok.

Osmoregulation is a physiological adjustment mechanism of fish to environmental conditions. Fish growth performance will reduce when a large amount of energy is redirected for the osmoregulation process. The purpose of this study was to determine the osmotic work level (OWL), osmoregulation pattern, condition factor (K), gonad maturity stages (GMS) and analyze the relationship between OWL with condition factor and GMS of tilapia collected from three floating net cages in Cengklik reservoir, Boyolali. Samples were collected during March – April 2022 followed by some allometric measurements and regression analyses. The OWL of tilapia at the three cages ranged from 4 – 10 mOsm/L H2O; they performed a hyperosmotic osmoregulation pattern. The condition factor of male and female tilapia were1,86±0,21 and 1,89±0,18. GMS of both male and female tilapia was dominated by GMS IV with a fecundity of 9408±2092.54 eggs. OWL did not reveal a significant effect on condition factors or on the GMS of tilapia (p>0.05). Pearson correlation test showed a weak relationship between OWL with condition factors (r = 0,204) and tilapia GMS (r = -0,001). Therefore, tilapia uses less energy in osmotic work to produce good growth performance because it has more energy for growth, as indicated by the high condition factor (K>1) and domination by fish with GMS IV level of mature gonads.Keywords: Condition Factor; Gonad Maturity; Fish Cages; Oreochromis niloticus; Osmoregulation
