“…The value of IUI in treating couples is substantiated by these results, with a cumulative pregnancy rate of 26.9% within six attempts and plateauing at 44.7% after nine cycles. In several other studies presenting life table analyses, reported pregnancy rates ranged from 27% (Lalich et al, 1988) to as high as 52% (Brasch et al, 1994) after the sixth attempted cycle of IUI. As in most forms of infertility treatment, the success of IUI is largely influenced by the aetiology of the infertility.…”

“…Van Voorhis et al [2001] suggest that when PTMS is ≥ 20 × 10 6 , the pregnancy rate significantly increases and when PTMS is ≤ 10 × 10 6 , the pregnancy rate is significantly less. Brasch et al [1994] have reported a minimal threshold of 252 F. Dong et al 3 × 10 6 for IUI, and when PTMS exceeds 20 × 10 6 the pregnancy rate can increase significantly. At present, it is generally held that when PTMS is ≥10 × 10 6 , the IUI pregnancy rate does not vary.…”

“…Huang et al (1996) reported that men contributing to successful IUI had significantly higher sperm counts. Moreover, Brasch et al (1994) reported greater success when sperm counts were Ͼ20 million/ml, although other researchers reported more conservative results, suggesting that IUI success is only adversely affected when sperm counts are Ͻ1 million/ml (Campana et al, 1996). As with most IUI procedures, women are stimulated to hyperovulate, so the applicability of these results to conception rates during coitus is unknown.…”
