Abstract:Tomato Mi-1.2 resists root-knot nematodes. Mi, or a similar gene, may also be responsible for resistance to Bemisia tabaci whitefly in Mi-bearing commercial tomato varieties. Mi-1.2 is the only resistance gene that fights root-knot nematodes, aphids, and whiteflies. Mi is useful in integrated pest control strategies because these pests are the most damaging to tomato crops worldwide.
