The relationship between the stromal mast cell number, microvessel density, c-erbb-2 staining and survival and prognostic factors in colorectal carcinoma

Abstract: The grade increased with the number of mast cells, while survival decreased with an increase in the number of mast cells. The ratio of c-erbB-2 staining increased as the grade and stage increased. There was an association between mast cell number and microvessel density. We found no relationship between prognosis and c-erbB-2, mast cell number, and microvessel density.

“…Literature searches yield 11,417 records and the results were shown in Figure S1. Twenty eight studies containing 4,224 patients with solid tumor were identified for the assessment of tumor‐infiltrating tryptase + mast cells . All the studies were evaluated by the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS), and were in accordance with the inclusion criteria and suitable for data consolidation.…”

“…For each case, the peritumoral LVD (P‐LVD; hotspots selected in the peripheral tissues within 2 mm of the tumor margins) and intratumoral LVD (I‐LVD; hotspots located within the tumor and surrounded by tumor cells) were calculated separately [20,22,23]. MCs were counted in intratumoral (I‐MCD), peritumoral (P‐MCD), and nontumoral breast (NTB‐MCD; outside of the peritumoral area) tissues [20,21]. In lymph node slides, the area surrounded by a lymph node capsule was taken into account [21].…”
