Abstract:Technology has changed the social landscape and the nature of social interaction. Education has been affected by these changes, as technology has facilitated the creation and Implementation of new educational environments and delivery methods (e.g., distance and blended-learning structures). While the prevalence of such approaches has increased over time, little is known about the learning skills that promote academic success; consequently, the ability of instructors and administrators to implement appropriate… Show more

This research aims to evaluate the level of postsecondary student satisfaction with online learning platforms and learning experiences during the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This paper is based on the premise of transformative learning theories [1], which describe the learners’ authority and investment over their learning. Quantitative research was carried out using a survey that was sent out to 283 students enrolled at one higher education institution in KSA. These data were analyzed using SPSS. Average Mean Score (AMS) was used for data analysis, where the results are validated using the Standard Deviation (SD), Skewness and Kurtosis test, and Cronbach Alpha test. The research findings revealed that the students are satisfied with the university staff and faculty members who agreed on specific online platforms to use, grading system, assessment options, training workshops, online technical support, and more. The research findings also showed that participants were highly satisfied with Google Hangouts the most for lecture delivery, followed by Google Classroom and LMS (Moodle) for course management and assessments. With only respect to the students’ online learning experiences, the COVID-19 situation within this study context was handled adequately. This study calls for further research into the integration of professional development workshops and practical training courses for online learning and teaching to endorse innovative teaching techniques and alternative assessment plans for instructors, learners, administrators, and policymakers.

“…Any educator must motivate their students properly, or better yet, make the students motivate themselves. Considerable research related to self-regulation showed that pre-service teachers could do it (Fadda, 2019). If the teachers do not know how to motivate themselves, they may find it difficult to motivate others.…”

“…Research regarding the first category would investigate if the students displayed self-regulatory characteristics (Fadda, 2019) or the effectiveness of self-regulation in learning (Vasu, Mei Fung, Nimehchisalem, & Rashid, 2020). On the other hand, research regarding the second category would see how the students self-regulate themselves when exposed to a new skill (Fathi, Ahmadnejad, & Yousofi., 2019).…”
This paper investigates the self-regulation practices in reading classes among students from a private university in Yogyakarta. In an era where students and their thinking process are the centers of the teaching and learning process, each student’s metacognition skills need to adjust the teaching methods used inside and outside the classroom. To that end, students must be aware of their metacognitive skills and self-regulating behaviors. The research method used in this paper was the quantitative method. The researchers used the interview and focused group discussion (FGD) method on gaining information regarding students' awareness of their metacognitive skills and self-regulation habits. The participants were students from a pre-determined private university in Yogyakarta, where the reading classes are known to be student-centered. The results showed that while the students could create strategies and reflect upon said strategies, they still lacked a critical component of self-regulation, namely the preparation phase. This discovery means that the students need to be aware of the importance of preparing to meet specific goals and self-motivation.
Even before Corona, it was already clear to us that digitization concerns us all. It permeates our everyday life at work as well as in private. Moreover, it increasingly determines the learning location "school", where meaningful digitization based on a well-thought-out strategy has top priority to create a contemporary educational environment. Due to the school closings due to the pandemic in spring 2020, the education system had to take measures as soon as possible to continue lessons in homeschooling or distance learning. This study evaluates how homeschooling works in the current exceptional situation and which weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities can be documented. The aim is to depict the current situation from two different perspectives, teachers and parents, and to be able to draw possible conclusions for learning after the Corona crisis. The results and findings of the homeschooling study are also may be used to plan future courses.
