The relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome and coronary heart disease: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract: BackgroundPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common gynecological endocrine diseases for women of puberty and reproductive age. PCOS can affect women’s health for the rest of their lives since the incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) may increase in the perimenopausal and senile periods among PCOS women compared with non-PCOS women.MethodA literature retrieval based on the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) database. “…Some women with PCOS are turning to cosmetic procedures like laser hair removal. Given the potential risk of embolic complications with oral contraceptives, it is essential to approach patients individually, selecting the safest contraception type while considering contraindications and assessing risk factors for heart disease [42][43][44][45][46]. Therefore, comprehensive care is vital, tailoring treatment based on accompanying symptoms, conditions, and expected outcomes.…”

“…It offers a comprehensive and systematic assessment of the present research status, while also identifying potential avenues for future research within targeted fields. Bibliometrics effectively integrates information throughout the research process, enhances understanding, and assists in the deepening of knowledge regarding specific research areas ( 17 , 18 ). It has been noted that there is currently a lack of bibliometric analysis focusing on the recent cooperation and research trends of LIPUS, with a focus on endocrinology and metabolism.…”

“…Bibliometric analysis is based on mathematical and statistical methods to analyze all articles published on a research topic over a period of time, providing an overview of research categories or topics, co-authorship, keyword frequency and the most cited articles or journals, which is exactly what is needed to reveal the frontiers and hotspots of research into metabolic dysfunction in PCOS ( 12 , 13 ). Previous articles have been published on different aspects related to PCOS, which are coronary heart disease, insulin resistance and infertility ( 14 16 ). This is the first bibliometric analysis of PCOS metabolic dysfunction in the last ten years (2012–2021) to investigate the current status of research in this field.…”
