Two studies were carried out in the general population from João Pessoa (PB). Study 1 participants were 206 people, mostly female (60%) and single (65%), with a mean age of 32 years. They answered the ATAS and demographic questions. The items of this measure identified a trifactorial structure with Cronbach's alphas higher than 0.70. Study 2 participants were 215 people, most of them female (51.6%) and single (48.4%), with a mean age of 33 years. The trifactorial solution was supported by confirmatory factor analysis, where Cronbach's alpha higher than 0.70. In conclusion, this instrument shows evidence of factorial validity and reliability, supporting measuring attitudes toward adoption in the general population.Keywords: Attitudes; Adoption; Scale; Validity; Reliability. Escala de actitudes hacia la adopción: Construcción y validez ResumenEl objetivo de esta investigación ha sido desarrollar la Escala de Actitudes hacia a la Adopción (EAHA), reuniendo evidencias de validez factorial y fiabilidad. Se realizaron estudios con la población general de João Pessoa (PB). En el Estudio 1 participaron 206 personas, mayoría de ellas mujeres (60%) y solteras (65%), con edad promedia de 32 años, que contestaron a la EAHA y preguntas demográficas. Los ítems de esta medida, surgiendo una estructura con tres factores, que presentaron alfas de Cronbach por encima de 0.70. En el Estudio 2 participaron 215 personas, mayoría mujeres (51.6%) y solteras (48.4%), con media de edad de 33 años. Por medio del análisis factorial confirmatorio, ha sido corroborada la estructura trifactorial como la mejor solución, presentando alfas de Cronbach superiores a 0.70. Concluyendo, este instrumento reunió evidencias de validez factorial y fiabilidad, pudiendo medir actitudes hacia la adopción en la población general.

This study examines the literary representation of adopted Chinese girls' psychological sense of community in Chinese-American communities. Psychological sense of community is defined as the perception that an individual is part of an inclusive social network (Hill, 1996). This sense is multi-dimensional; three specific dimensions are living in a bicultural community, participating in cultural festivals, and replicating birth-country food practices (e.g., Frost, 2008;Mannarini & Fedi, 2009). The researchers identified 37 children's books that featured portrayals of Chinese girls adopted by U.S. families. A content analysis was conducted to determine the extent that the three dimensions were evident in the books. The analysis was based on concepts drawn from the community psychology literature. All three senses of community dimensions are described, and a fourth dimension (compensatory information/symbol) is identified. This last dimension was consistent with literature about immigrant and adoptive populations. Implications of this study for practice/research are noted.
