The relationship between operation duration and shivering in post-spinal anaesthesia patients

Abstract: Background: Giving spinal anaesthesia is an effort to relieve pain to create optimal conditions for surgery operation consciously. A shivering event frequently follows the phenomenon of the long duration of the operation.  Purpose: The study aimed to determine the relationship between operation duration and shivering in post spinal anaesthesia patients. Methods: The study design is a quantitative study and uses a cross-sectional approach. Sampling used a systematic sampling technique on the populat… Show more

“…When there is a change in body temperature, it is detected by 2 types of thermoreceptors, namely thermoreceptors in the skin and in the hypothalamus. Thermoreceptors in the skin (peripheral thermoreceptors) and in the hypothalamus and spinal cord (central thermoreceptors) (Renaningtyastutik, Lumadi, & Handian, 2022). Central thermoreceptors provide important feedback in maintaining core body temperature while peripheral thermoreceptors provide information (Muchtar, Suangga, & Kurniawan, 2023).…”

“…Postoperative surgical pain makes the non-thermoregulatory shivering happen. [27] The effect of acetaminophen in decreasing postoperative pain makes it also a beneficial method against POS. In addition, acetaminophen has been shown to effectively reduce PON and POV, [28,29] the antiemetic effect was by direct mechanisms or through the reduction in postoperative pain.…”

“…Penggunaan teknik anestesi memiliki berbagai efek samping. Salah satu diantaranya yang terjadi pada pembedahan dengan anestesi umum maupun regional yaitu menggigil (Renaningtyastutik et al, 2022). Post Anaesthetic Shivering (PAS) merupakan kondisi fasikulasi terdapat pada otot rangka dengan durasi lebih dari 15 detik yang disebabkan hipotermia perioperatif pasien (Donsu et al, 2022).…”
