The relationship between neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and blood pressure variability in hypertensive and normotensive subjecs

Abstract: In the present study, we found that NLR levels were significantly correlated with BP variability. The measurement of NLR may be used to indicate increased risk of HT-related adverse cardiovascular events.

“…Only a few studies in the literature have compared patients with newly diagnosed hypertension versus healthy individuals. In a study performed by Kılıc¸aslan et al, 29 the highest NLR among patients with newly diagnosed hypertension was found in the non-dippers. Likewise, the highest NLR was found in the nondippers in the present study (p<0.001).…”

“…Therefore, blood pressure decreases could be minimal among participants whose NLR was greatly reduced. It was reported that NLR was significantly higher in hypertensive patients, 28,29 and vasculitis causes arteriosclerosis gradually over long periods, leading to strong vascular resistance. Thus, it is necessary to assess the relationship change in NLR and change in blood pressure after smoking cessation over longer periods in future studies.…”

“…Moreover, other studies have found that NLR was increased in non-dippers with arterial hypertension when compared with dipper and normotensive subjects. Additionally, NLR significantly correlated with blood pressure variation rate, and itwas found to be an independent predictor of blood pressure variability [24]. It is widely suggested that inflammation plays an important role in the progression and severity of cardiac diseases.…”
