The relationship between ischemia-modified albumin/albumin ratio levels and disease severity in COVID-19 patients

Abstract

The relationship between ischemia-modified albumin/ albumin ratio levels and disease severity in COVID-19 patients I n December 2019, the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2, was detected in Wuhan, China. COVID-19 quickly spread throughout China and the whole world [1]. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11, 2020 due to its uncontrollable spread [2]. The COVID-19 pandemic has been responsible for more than 649,000,000 cases and 6,600,000 deaths as of December 2022 [3]. COVID-19 can be asymptomatic or symptomatic. The symptomatic form may have a dis-ease spectrum ranging from mild upper respiratory tract disease to severe interstitial pneumonia, resulting in respiratory failure and even death [4,5]. Therefore, identifying potentially critically ill patients is extremely important. With the early detection of these patients and appropriate treatment options, both hospitalization and mortality rates can be reduced. In many studies, a relationship between the inflammatory state called cytokine storm and the deterioration of the clinical condition of COVID-19 patients has been reported [4,6,7]. It is
