Background: Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a management option for infertility. We aimed to investigate the association between endometrial thickness (ET) and pregnancy outcome after IUI, and to identify factors affecting outcome in a Hong Kong population. Methods: Medical records of women who underwent IUI at the infertility clinic of Queen Elizabeth Hospital from January 2013 to June 2019 were reviewed. Only the first cycle was included in the analysis to avoid overrepresentation of patients who failed treatment. Patients with or without clinical pregnancy were compared, as were patients with or without ongoing pregnancy. The predictive power of ET for pregnancy in IUI was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Proportions of clinical pregnancy and ongoing pregnancy were calculated for 3 different subgroups of ET (<7 mm, 7-10 mm, and >10 mm). Results: Of 337 IUI cycles, the clinical pregnancy rate was 12.7% (n=43); the ongoing pregnancy rate was 10.6% (n=36); and the multiple pregnancy rate was 1.4% (n=5). Shorter duration of infertility was associated with clinical pregnancy (2.67 years vs 3.51 years, p=0.003) and ongoing pregnancy (2.64 years vs 3.50 years, p=0.001). ET was not predictive of clinical pregnancy or ongoing pregnancy, with the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve being 0.473 and 0.509, respectively. Highest clinical and ongoing pregnancy rates occurred in those with ET of >10 mm. In patients with ET of >10 mm, all patients with clinical pregnancy successfully carried on to ongoing pregnancy. Conclusion: ET is not predictive of IUI success. Longer duration of infertility adversely affects IUI outcome.

Infertility is the inability of couples who have regular sexual intercourse without using protection to achieve pregnancy within one year. The prevalence of infertility was 21.3% in Indonesia. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is an assisted reproductive technology chosen by infertile couples to have children. Various factors influence the success of IUI. One factor that influences the success of IUI is the female partner’s age. To determine the relationship between the age of female partners and the success of IUI. This study is descriptive-analytical research with the Cross-Sectional method using secondary data obtained from medical records of patients who underwent IUI procedures from January to March 2020 at Rumah Sakit Ibu dan Anak Puri Bunda Denpasar. Total research subjects are 31 patients with an average age of 32 years. Positive pregnancies in female partners aged 25-35 years are 8 patients (33,3%) and female partners aged 35-40 are 1 patient (14.3%). Most patients had secondary infertility with a duration of 1-3 years. There is no relation between the increasing age of female partners and the decreasing success of IUI at Rumah Sakit Ibu dan Anak Puri Bunda Denpasar (p=0,329). But female partners aged 25-35 years tended to have a positive pregnancy 2,333 times higher than female partners aged 35-40 years (RR=2,333; CI 95%: 0,349-15,612).

Infertility is a condition after a year of regular sexual intercourse, without the use of contraceptives, and ends with the absence of pregnancy. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a procedure that is widely used in fertility clinics and is usually the first treatment option in patients who are experiencing infertility disorders, diagnosis of infertility due to cervical factors, diagnosis of factor infertility in men, and diagnosis of unexplained infertility. the cause. IUI is also a simple, inexpensive, and quite effective infertility treatment. One of the factors that can influence the success of IUI is leukospermia. This study is an analytical study using a cross-sectional design and using medical records of patients diagnosed with infertility, aged from 25 to 45 years, and undergoing IUI procedures from January to June 2022 at the RSIA Puri Bunda Denpasar. The sampling method in this study used a purposive sampling method which was selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. In this study, 53 samples were obtained. Of the 53 samples that have been collected, 13 people experienced leukospermia (24.5%), 40 people were non-leukospermic (75.5%). The success of IUI in this study was 17 people (32.1%) consisting of 3 leukospermic (23.1%) and 14 non-leukospermic (35.0%). The results of the Fisher's Exact test obtained, namely the p value = 0.511, it can be concluded that leukospermia with the success of IUI does not have a significant relationship. Calculation of odds ratio (OR) obtained a figure of 1.759 (CI95% 0,423-7,610).
