The relationship between depression–malnutrition and echocardiographic-blood pressure parameters in chronic hemodialysis patients

Abstract: The results show that lesser degrees of nocturnal dip and eLVH are associated with increased degrees of depression, implying that hypervolemia is strongly associated with depression and might be a component of strong relationships involving malnutrition, inflammation, and atherosclerosis in CHD patients.

“…2007). Patients who undergo dialysis treatment experience psychosocial problems along with several life activity limitations such as liquid limitations and activity restraints urged by the disease and the treatment, which in turn gives rise to depression (Baydoğan & Dağ 2008, Kursat et al. 2008).…”

“…The TDQ might be considered a more valid tool than the BDI for the assessment of depression in Taiwanese patients. Chen et al (2003) found that the prevalence of depression was 33·4% (TDQ scores above 19), and Kursat et al (2008) found that the prevalence of depression was 78·8%. Although the prevalence of depression varied widely between these two studies, much of the variance seemed to be related to cultural differences between the study populations.…”

“…first reported that depression scores were correlated with LVMI and associated with eccentric LVH in chronic HD patients. However, in that study, the depression symptoms were measured at a single time and multivariate analysis for the independent relationship of depression symptoms with LVH was not done 21 . In our study, persistent depression symptoms were independently related to LVMI after adjustment for age, sex, systolic BP, diastolic BP, diabetes and interdialytic weight gain.…”

“…In our study, persistent depression symptoms were independently associated with LVMI for the patients on chronic HD. Previous studies have demonstrated that depression symptoms are associated with LVH in ESRD 21 and non‐ESRD populations 22 . Kursat et al .…”
