“…8 Another study conducted in the USA found that the increase in cesarean sections in singleton preterm births was probably due to more breech presentations. 30 A fetus weighing less than 2.5 kg or more than 4 kg would most likely need to be delivered via cesarean section compared to fetus weith normal neonatal birth weight. Patel et al reported similar observations and similar results were found by another study indicating both large and small fetuses are mostly implicated in cesarean deliveries than infants with the average neonatal birth weight.…”

“…The accounting of risks and benefits of alternative modes of delivery has been the subject of several articles in this series. [8][9][10][11] A National Institutes of Health State-of-the-Science Conference panel determined in a systematic review that moderate quality evidence was available linking cesarean section on maternal request with a decreased risk of maternal hemorrhage as well as increased neonatal respiratory morbidity, subsequent placenta previa or accreta, subsequent uterine rupture, and a longer maternal length of stay. 12,13 Weak evidence links elective cesarean section with a lower risk of neonatal encephalopathy, brachial plexus injury, and short-term (but not long-term) urinary incontinence.…”

“…However, the pace of increase has slowed somewhat for 2006 (data not shown). A recent study found that the increase in the preterm birth rate has occurred primarily among infants delivered by cesarean section (81). See also ''Period of Gestation'' section.…”
