The relationship between cannabis and violence: A review.

Abstract: This review critically examines the evidence dealing with the alleged relationship between cannabis and violence and considers some of the variables that enter into such an assessment. The consensus is that marijuana does not precipitate violence in the majority of those using it sporadically or chronically. However, there are certain individuals, such as those suffering from temporal lobe dysrhythmia, and certain situations of set and setting, in which marijuana may result in violence.

A tendency exists for the methodologically better studies to find no or even an inverse situational effect of cannabis use on violence (Myerscough and Taylor, ).…”

However, more recent data suggest that marijuana use may be related to increased likelihood of violence, with particularly relevance to use during adolescence.…”
