Objective: The present research aimed to determine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on emotional eating behavior, emotion dysregulation, perceived stress, and rumination in women suffering from chronic obesity. Methods and Materials: This study was a quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up phases, including a control group. The research population consisted of all women suffering from chronic obesity and body mass index, visiting the Kian City Nutrition Counseling Clinic in Tehran between May and July 2022. For forming two groups, 30 women with chronic obesity and body mass index were initially selected through screening, and then randomly divided into 15 patients in the experimental group and 15 in the control group. The ACT treatment program was conducted over 8 sessions of 90 minutes each, based on the protocol by Neff and Germer (2013). The instruments included the Eating Behavior Questionnaire by van Strien et al. (1986), the Emotion dysregulation Questionnaire by Gratz and Roemer (2004), the Perceived Stress Questionnaire by Cohen et al. (1983), and the Rumination Questionnaire by Nolen-Hoeksema and Morrow (1991). Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. Findings: The results showed that ACT had a significant effect on improving emotional eating behavior (F=115.83, P<0.001), emotion dysregulation (F=98.10, P<0.001), perceived stress (F=101.53, P<0.001), and rumination (F=74.52, P<0.001) in women with chronic obesity and body mass index (P>0.05). Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy contributes to the improvement of emotional eating behavior, emotion dysregulation, perceived stress, and rumination in women with chronic obesity.

Aim and Background: Irritable bowel syndrome is related to chronic psychological factors; therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of emotion-focused treatment on rumination, ataxia, and sleep quality in patients with irritable bowel syndrome. Methods and Materials: The research method was semi-experimental, with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and a three-month follow-up phase. Its statistical population included all women with irritable bowel syndrome who referred to government medical centers in Kerman city in 1400. For this purpose, according to the entry and exit criteria, 30 of them were selected using available sampling method and were replaced by random method in two experimental and control groups. At first, a pre-test was taken from both groups. Then, emotional therapy training was implemented for the experimental group and no intervention was done for the control group. Hoeksma and Maro rumination scale (1991), sleep quality questionnaire and Toronto Emotional Narrative Questionnaire were used to collect data. The research data were analyzed using mixed variance analysis. Findings: The results showed that the mean rumination and alexithymia of the experimental group in the post-test and follow-up stages had a significant decrease compared to the pre-test stage. In addition, the difference between the post-test and follow-up phase is not significant; Also, the average sleep disorder of the experimental group has decreased significantly in the post-test and follow-up stages compared to the pre-test stage. The difference between the post-test and follow-up phase was significant, which indicates a significant increase in sleep disorder in the follow-up phase compared to the post-test phase. Conclusions: According to the findings of the research, it can be said that emotional therapy can have a significant effect on the research variables, and the effect of the treatment was also significant in the follow-up period, especially for sleep disorders; However, the treatment effect was reserved for two other variables in the follow-up period.

The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of quality of life therapy training in improving psychological capital and emotion regulation among mothers of patients with neurological and mental disorders in Isfahan city. The statistical population consisted of all mothers of patients with neurological and mental disorders who had files at the Nooralmahdi Rehabilitation Center in Isfahan. The sample of this study included 30 mothers of patients with neurological and mental disorders who met the research entry criteria and were then randomly assigned to either the control or experimental group. While the control group was on the waiting list, the experimental group received the quality of life therapy package in 8 sessions of 90 minutes each. The research tools were the Luthans Psychological Capital Questionnaire (2007) and the Garnefski Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (2001). Both groups were assessed in two stages, pre-test and post-test. Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (multivariate analysis of covariance) were used for data analysis and examination. The results indicated that psychological capital and its dimensions significantly improved, but emotion regulation did not change in either the adaptive or maladaptive dimensions. According to the findings of this study, it can be said that quality of life therapy training is effective for improving the psychological capital of mothers of patients with neurological and mental disorders, but other complementary psychological interventions are needed to improve emotion regulation in both adaptive and maladaptive dimensions.
