“…Reduction of abaxial identity in phb leaves was confirmed using the abaxial identity marker FIL, a YABBY gene (Siegfried et al 1999). Interestingly, while peltate leaves with abaxialized parts have evolved repeatedly in angiosperms, including the case reported here, adaxialized leaves like those seen in phb plants appear to be extremely rare in nature (Gleissberg et al 1999).
