The red luminescence characteristics of fully concentrated Eu‐based phosphor EuBaB9O16

Abstract: The red phosphor EuBaB 9 O 16 was prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method. The crystallite phase of the phosphor was observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. Scanning electron micrographs were obtained to study the morphologic features and the particle size of the phosphor. The photoluminescence (PL) excitation and emission spectra, temperature dependence of luminescence intensity and the decay curves were investigated. The phosphor, when excited with near-UV wavelength radiation, exhibit… Show more

“…As shown in Fig. [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] Especially, the local coordination environment of RE 3+ ions have been investigated by using Eu 3+ -luminescence as a structural probe. It is understandable due to the close ionic radii for Bi 3+ and Eu 3+ .…”

“…4a, no observable impurity peaks were found in powder XRD patterns, where the refection peaks show a slight shift. 11,16,17 For example, the presence of a strong 5 D0→ 7 F2 emission usually indicates that the coordination environment of Eu 3+ is deviated from inversion symmetry. The slight difference in cell lattice parameters, including a, c and V, can be verified by Le Bail refinements as summarized in Table S3 in ESI, and the unit cell volumes along with the increase of x is shown in Fig.…”

“…6,7 REMB 9 O 16 (RE = rare earth, M = Sr or Ba) is a series of wellknown phosphor hosts with the advantage of containing two types of cations, RE 3+ and M 2+ . 19,20 These materials potentially have applications in white light-emitting diodes (WLED), 20 tricolour lamps, 11,21 plasma display panels (PLD) under VUV excitation, 13,22 and laser materials. [10][11][12] Massive efforts have been devoted to investigate the photoluminescent (PL) properties of phosphors such as REMB 9 O 16 :Tb 3+ , Ce 3+ (RE = La, Gd, and Y, M = Sr or Ba), 9 REBaB 9 O 16 :Eu 3+ (RE = La, Gd, and Y), 10,11,13,14 GdBaB 9 O 16 :RE (RE = Gd, Sm, Dy, Pr, and Nd), [15][16][17][18] LaBaB 9 O 16 :M (M = Bi 3+ , Mn 2+ ), 12 and EuBaB 9 O 16 .…”

“…This kind of phosphor is very favorable to suffer from high photon flux during its application without many luminescence quenching. It has been found that some Eu 3 þ compounds show no luminescence quenching, such as Eu 3 BWO 9 [17], K 3 Eu(VO 4 ) 2 [18], Eu 2 WO 6 [19], EuBaB 9 O 16 [20].…”
