The recruitment and onboarding of the board of trustees: an action research study

Abstract

The time, sweat, and tears invested into a doctoral program do not only belong to the individual upon whom the degree is conferred or even to those who are active in the work on the dissertation and research itself. I think fondly and lovingly of the phrase in reference to my dad that my mom shared with so many people over the years of her life. He earned his baccalaureate degree from Drexel University while fulfilling his roles as a father, husband, full-time employee, and a college student. When he crossed the stage to receive his diploma, it was noted that my mom received her PhT ("put him through") at the same time. With that in mind, I think about those who helped put me through, and therefore, they received the conferral of the PhT degree for another generation.I thank and dedicate this dissertation to my family. Amy is the rock upon which our nucleus is held. Not only has she been supportive of my career and the undertaking of this dissertation, she has managed to keep our family rolling by means of love, laughter, and focus.Countless times she told me to focus. Countless times she took on more during the window of this program to make sure that our kids saw and knew the love and support of both parents, even when one of us was back home working on their dissertation. Makenna, George, and Kaylee, you went from being in 7 th , 10 th , and 12 th grades through a global pandemic that moved classes from school to virtual, to hybrid, and back to school, to completing 10 th grade, first-year in college, and junior year in college. Thank you for your encouragement, love, and support that helped me accomplish this while doing the best I could to remain active in your interests and to show support in what was and is important to each of you.
