RESUMENEn este trabajo se investiga la caracterización del comportamiento mecánico de la tubería compuesta Fiberspar por medio de análisis por elementos finitos (FEA), con el fin de estudiar la integridad estructural de tuberías compuestas para el transporte de petróleo en Colombia. Se realizaron ensayos de laboratorio de acuerdo con la norma ASTM D2290 con el objetivo de determinar la resistencia a la tensión y comparar los resultados con el modelo numérico. Se utilizaron los criterios de fallo de Tsai-Wu y Tsai-Hill para la tubería trabajando a diferentes presiones, incluyendo la presión operacional, determinando valores para el fallo e identificando las capas críticas.Palabras clave: Tubería material compuesto, análisis de elementos finitos, simulación, criterios de falla, ASTM D2290. ABSTRACTIn this work, we performed a finite element analysis (FEA) to characterize the mechanical behavior of the composite pipe Fiberspar in order to investigate the structural integrity of composite pipes for crude oil transport in Colombia. Tests according to ASTM D2290 standard were performed in the laboratory to determine the tensile ultimate strength and compare the results with the numerical model. Failure criteria Tsai-Wu and Tsai-Hill were considered for the pipes working at different pressures, including operational pressure and, thus, the failure values and critical layers were identified.

Investigation of torsional behaviors of the carbon/epoxy composite shafts that manufactured with using different fibres orientation angles

Abstract-In this study, the torsional stresses of hollow circular shafts manufactured from composite materials and with different orientation angles were researched. For hollow circular composite shafts; carbon fiber were used as the fiber materials, while epoxy resin was used as the matrix material. 80mm, 200mm and 250mm long composite shafts of different inner diameters were used. The hollow circular composite shafts were manufactured at θ=45°, 60°, 75°, 80°, 88° orientation angles. Filament winding method was preferred when manufacturing the composite shafts. The mechanical torsion tests of hollow circular composite shafts were separately repeated for each sample. The obtained results were evaluated among themselves in terms of the length of the shafts, the diameter of the shafts and the orientation angle, after which they were transferred to the graphics. The obtained results of experimental and numerical analyses were presented in graphs and the necessary considerations were made. The experimental and numerical analysis results were found to be close to each other.

This study examined carbon/epoxy cylinders with a bias fiber orientation ranging from AE40 to AE60 . The cylinders were pressurized internally and they exhibited a matrix-dominated failure. Coupons with a fiber orientation of 50 or less exhibited a shear failure mode, while coupons with a fiber orientation of 55 or more had a transverse failure mode. The gradual failure process was modeled using a phenomenological approach, where the stiffness degradation was examined in the material coordinate system. Biaxial stress-strain curves were simulated for each fiber angle using Zinoviev damage and Sun plasticity models, extended for biaxial tension. The models were only able to describe the shear response of bias pressure vessels considered here. The experimental results showed slight hardening in shear and significant softening in the transverse direction. Accounting for these post-yield effects significantly improved the correlation with experiment.
