“…The thicknesses of single varves vary from~1 up to 69 cm. Summer and winter units are differentiated on the basis of (i) the variety of lithofacies, (ii) grain size and colour, (iii) thickness, (iv) the geometry and origin of contacts between laminae, and (v) the presence of microlaminae(Krzyszkowski 1993;Wachecka-Kotkowska et al 2017;Krzyszkowski et al 2019).…”

“…The new, revised maximum Saalian ice sheet limit is (from west to east): northern edge of the Sudetes (Krzyszkowski et al, 2019), Moravian Gate (Břizová, 1994), northern slopes of the South Polish Uplands (Terpiłowski et al, 2014;Marks et al, 2018;Czubla et al, 2019). The study area was located north of the maximum limit of the Saalian (Odranian) ice sheet.…”

“…No delta bottom-set sediments in the form of varved clays are observed at Mokrzeszów, as is the case at many similar sites in the Sudetes (Krzyszkowski et al 2019b). The analysis of numerous borehole sections from the vicinity of Mokrzeszów, in the Świdnica Plain, and in the Subsudetic Depression (Niedzielski & Migoń 2005, Krzyszkowski et al 2019a permits the conclusion that the ice-dammed lake deposits of bottom facies from the period of the ice sheet advance during the Odranian glaciation are relatively widely distributed in this area. They occur in many places on the ground surface or under a thin layer of glacial tills.…”
