The R package beezdemand: Behavioral Economic Easy Demand

Abstract: beezdemand: Behavioral Economic Easy Demand, a novel package for performing behavioral economic analyses, is introduced and evaluated. beezdemand extends the statistical program to facilitate many of the analyses performed in studies of behavioral economic demand. The package supports commonly used options for modeling operant demand and performs data screening, fits models of demand, and calculates numerous measures relevant to applied behavioral economists. The free and open source beezdemand package is comp… Show more

“…For example, Perspectives on Behavior Science allows authors to archive online material (Hantula, 2016a(Hantula, , 2016b, including data protocols and software. Recent issues have included shared software (Bullock, Fisher, & Hagopian, 2017;Kaplan, Gilroy & Hursh, 2018) and video (Deochand, Costello, & Deochand, 2018). Other examples include publications that share software and protocols on public access platforms such as GitHub (e.g., Gilroy, Franck, & Hantula, 2017;Gilroy, Kaplan, Reed, Koffarnus, & Hantula, 2018).…”

“…The exponentiated equation was used to fit demand curves due to its ability to accommodate 0 values (Koffarnus et al, 2015). APT outcomes were derived in R using the Beezdemand package (Kaplan et al, 2019). We examined 5 outcome measures: (i) derived intensity of demand, (ii) alpha/ elasticity of demand, (iii) observed O Max , (iv) observed P Max , and (v) breakpoint, defined in this study as the highest price where there is any alcohol consumption.…”

“…Once entered, relevant data are selected using “point‐and‐click” interactions that do not require programming to perform. For an R‐based package (requiring programming) for conducting behavioral economic demand curve analyses, we encourage the readers to consult Kaplan, Gilroy, Reed, Koffarnus, and Hursh (in press).…”
