The PTSD interview: Rationale, description, reliability, and concurrent validity of a DSM-III-based technique

Abstract: This paper describes the PTSD Interview (PTSD‐I). It was developed to meet four specifications: (a) close correspondence to DSM‐III standards; (b) binary present/absent and continuous severity/frequency outputs on each symptom and the entire syndrome; (c) administrable by trained subprofessionals; and (d) substantial reliability and validity. It was written to meet the first three criteria. It demonstrated very high internal consistency (alpha = 0.92) and test‐retest reliability (Total score r = 0.95; diagnost… Show more

“…Czarnocka and Slade (2000) used the PTSD-Q (Watson, Juba, Manifold, Kucala, & Anderson, 1991) which is comparable in design to the PSS, and also used the Impact of Event Scale (IES) (Horowitz, Wilner, & Alvarez, 1979) to investigate intrusive and avoidance symptoms. Skari et al (2002) combined two questionnaires to assess a PTSD-like response using the IES and items of the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) concerning hyperarousal.…”

“…However, traditional circumcision carried more risk for anxiety. 21 A review by Yavuz et al hypothesized that circumcision might not affect children negatively due to: 1) the positive view attributed to circumcision in the community; 2) performing circumcision at an age when the child could appreciate circumcision and its consequences; and 3) most of the people in the community had been circumcised. 22 This is supported by the argument that advises to perform circumcision at an age when the child could make his own decisions, since the child perceives it as a threat.…”
