“…Recent works point out the importance of the interaction between Psychologist and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, (Burden et al, 2010, Basso et cols, 2022. Many patients with surgical needs and candidates for surgical intervention have high levels of perfectionism, low self-esteem, feelings of being less attractive, insecure, especially for Class III patients, (Gerzanic, Jagsch and Watzke, 2002;Venete et al, 2017), and, for some patients, psychotherapeutic care is imperative before surgical intervention (Frid, Baker & Johnsen, 2022) Carvalho et al (2012 draw attention to the psychosocial characteristics of patients that contribute to orthosurgical treatment, such as psychological support for the prevention of risk factors for psychological distress.
