The Psychometric Properties of the Resilience Scale (RS-14) in Lithuanian Adolescents

Abstract: In the current study, we provided the evidence of satisfactory validity of the RS-14 scale in the Lithuanian adolescents’ sample (N = 1299; Mage = 14.24; SDage = 1.26), based on its internal structure, and relations to other variables. The results of the study indicated an acceptable model fit for a single-factor structure of the scale with a high internal consistency (McDonald’s omega = 0.89). We also confirmed the scalar measurement invariance across groups of adolescents in terms of their age (i.e., early a… Show more

“…The RS14 was created by retaining items from the RS that had the highest interitem correlations and that measured the five core components of resilience ( Wagnild, 2009 ). Analyses among a sample of college students ( Aiena et al, 2015 ) and Lithuanian adolescents ( Zelviene et al, 2021 ). Provided evidence in support of the RS14's internal consistency and construct validation, including internal structure analyses and evidence of relations to other variables, such as life satisfaction, meaning in life, psychological distress, depression and anxiety.…”

“…Higher scores indicate a higher level of resilience. In this study, we used the Lithuanian RS-14 version [ 24 ] for a Lithuanian sample and the Japanese RS-14 version [ 25 ] for a Japanese sample. The internal reliability of the total scores in a total sample was good (Japanese version = 0.90; Lithuanian version = 0.91).…”

“…The Adult Resilience Scale (RS-14) consisting of 14 items recorded on a five-point Likert scale (0-4), with higher values indicating greater resilience tendencies in the general population [34]. This scale has good internal consistency (α = .85) and good test-retest reliability (r = .88) [35]. This scale was used only for the young people aged 17 or older at service entry.…”
