The study of human nutrition has always attracted great attention among modern researchers. The state of health is clearly connected with the diet and nutrition throughout a person's life. The research paper describes the basic nutrition principles among Poltava State Medical University medical students. The main behavioural strategies for choosing eating habits, which were formed under the influence of various factors, are summarised. The main recommendations for forming a diet considering the needs for nutrients of plant and animal origin, in accordance with the optimal ratio of proteins, fats and carbohydrates in the diet, were considered.The most characteristic risk factors that can affect students' health during their studies and may be a provoking factor in the development of diseases in the future are described. The important role in regulating the basic principles of nutrition among medical students is emphasised. There is also a need to create an optimal diet for students during their studies at medical institutions. The study identified current views on this issue in scientific papers. The main characteristics of the principle of rational nutrition in accordance with physical activity among professionally selected groups of the population, as well as the components of eating behaviour, were found out, and the characteristic causes of healthy eating disorders among medical students were identified. The tendency to maintain a healthy lifestyle is a necessary component in forming the future medical profession. That is why it is important to pay as much attention as possible to the issues of promoting the health of the entire population when working with students.
