“…Prosody comprises two categories, linguistic and affective prosody. This distinction was first proposed by Monrad-Krohn (1947, 1957 with three categories, viz. two categories for linguistic prosody (intrinsic prosody corresponding to word/sentence stress and intonation to mark modality and structure the message; and intellectual/propositional prosody for pragmatics) and one for emotional prosody.…”

“…In the canonical model described above, the right IFC mostly supports the analysis of paralinguistic, (specifically affective) features of prosody (Heilman, Bowers, Speedie, & Coslett, ; Ross, ). Prosody was originally proposed by the Norwegian neurologist Monrad‐Krohn—the founder of the modern patholinguistic study of disorders of prosody—to be the “third element” of speech, the other elements being “grammar” (syntax) and “vocabulary” (semantics; Monrad‐Krohn, , ). In this model, prosodic information is also conveyed by so‐called intrinsic features like stress, rhythm and pitch and these features are processed by right and left inferior frontal cortex (Frühholz et al., ; Vigneau et al., , ).…”
