SUMMARYThe Always On/Dynamic ISDN (AO/DI) system adaptively switches between packet switching and circuit switching in response to the traffic volume. In this paper, we propose a wireless AO/DI system based on the Personal Handyphone System (PHS), present an overview of this system, and perform an evaluation by a computer simulation of the channel occupation ratio and the call loss ratio of the system. The traffic model assumes an application such as WWW or electronic mail, and the performance is evaluated. The results show the effectiveness of the wireless AO/DI technology as the subscriber capacity of the entire system increases. Furthermore, the middleware for the wireless AO/DI and the terminal adapter for the wireless AO/DI are tested. The performance evaluation results of actual equipment are presented.
