The properties and photocatalytic performance comparison of Fe3+-doped g-C3N4 and Fe2O3/g-C3N4 composite catalysts

Abstract: Fe 3+ -doped g-C 3 N 4 and Fe 2 O 3 /g-C 3 N 4 composite catalysts were prepared by a simple method using melamine and ferric nitrate as precursors. X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectra, scanning electron microscopy, photoluminescence, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and photocurrent measurements were used to characterize the prepared catalysts. The results indicated that Fe 3+ was inserted at an interstitial position of g-C 3 N 4 by coordinating to N atoms, which exist i… Show more

“…Many attempts have been made to fabricate a-Fe 2 O 3 /g-C 3 N 4 composites for photodegrading organic dyes using visible light. 21,22 However, the g-C 3 N 4 /a-Fe 2 O 3 heterogeneous catalyst is not appropriate for practical use because it is difficult to remove from suspension and reuse. Magnetically separable photocatalysts have attracted considerable interest because they can be removed from suspensions easily.…”

“…Bearing these in mind, we devoted efforts to depositing ␣-Fe 2 O 3 on the g-C 3 N 4 sheets to build a composite, which may provided additional sites for the interaction with reaction gas, in expectation for designing a better catalyst. Up to now, Ye [34].…”

“…However, the high price of noble metals inhibits their practical application. Wang and Hu et al determined that the optical and electronic properties of g-C 3 N 4 could also be altered by transition metal doping such as Fe 3+ [15,16]. Fe-doped g-C 3 N 4 possesses a wider optical absorption range and better photocatalytic performance.…”
