The Prognostic Values of the Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein Family in Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Purpose. To assess the expression of insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP) family and its prognostic impact in ovarian cancer (OC) patients. Materials and Methods. The mRNA expression and protein expression of individual IGFBPs in healthy ovarian samples and OC tissues were explored through Oncomine, Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis, and Human Protein Atlas database. Additionally, the prognostic values of the six IGFBP members in patients with OC were evaluated by Kaplan-Meier plotte… Show more

“…In addition to the large body of evidence that indicates IGFBP5 acts as a tumor suppressor, there is considerable evidence that it has oncogenic roles. In ovarian cancer, as previously discussed, increased IGFBP5 was positively correlated with decreased overall survival, suggesting it is important for cancer progression (62). In breast cancer, IGFBP5 is oncogenic specifically when it is localized within the nucleus, a phenomenon observed primarily in cell lines engineered to ectopically overexpress IGFBP5 (77).…”

“…The subgroup analyses for OC consisted of two studies in our meta-analysis, one of which shows a significant association between IGFBP2 and OC perhaps because of the large sample size gained from GTEx project and TCGA. 36 The other study had only 99 samples and high IGFBP2 expression was not related to prognosis of OC patients. 35 Thus, the sample size may be a reason without statistical significance in OC.…”

“…We here used the OR to measure the strength of correlation between IGFBP2 and OC, but a significant connection did not exist in our meta‐analysis. The subgroup analyses for OC consisted of two studies in our meta‐analysis, one of which shows a significant association between IGFBP2 and OC perhaps because of the large sample size gained from GTEx project and TCGA 36 . The other study had only 99 samples and high IGFBP2 expression was not related to prognosis of OC patients 35 .…”

“…The insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP) family comprises six identified members (IGFBP-1–6) [ 8 ], which are implicated in the pathophysiology process of numerous human diseases, including cancer [ 9 ]. Although the precise mechanism is not completely understood, the IGFBP family plays important roles in lung cancer [ 10 ], ovarian cancer [ 11 ], breast cancer [ 12 ], and obesity [ 13 ]. Using the polymerase chain reaction, GBM cell lines were found to express mRNA for IGFBP genes: IGFBP-1 in 42%, IGFBP-2 in 65%, IGFBP-3 in 97%, IGFBP-4 in 3%, IGFBP-5 in 74%, IGFBP-6 in 94%, and IGFBP-7 in 87% of glioma cell lines [ 14 ].…”
