The prognostic value of preoperative fibrinogen-to-prealbumin ratio and a novel FFC score in patients with resectable gastric cancer

Abstract: Background: Chronic inflammation is considered as a hallmark of gastric cancer (GC) and plays a critical role in GC progression and metastasis. This study aimed to explore the prognostic values of preoperative fibrinogen-toprealbumin ratio (FPR), fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (FAR), and novel FPR-FAR-CEA (FFC) score in patients with GC undergoing gastrectomy. Methods: A total of 273 patients with resectable GC were included in this retrospective study. We performed Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses to ass… Show more

“…Combining two indicators of opposite changes, PFR is a valuable marker in systemic inflammatory diseases. It was reported that PFR was illustrated as the novel indicator for the diagnosis in acute pancreatitis and cancer prognosis (23,24). Our study confirmed our hypothesis that PFR was associated with TCNS, VPT and NCV.…”

“…In addition, previous studies have confirmed that PALB values are also inversely related to CRP values in inflammation (20,21,22). PALB to FIB ratio (PFR) is a new inflammation marker, which is closely related to acute pancreatitis and cancer (23,24). Therefore, we speculate that PFR may also be associated with DPN in T2DM.…”

“…[33][34][35] Recently, another inflammation biomarker FAR was found to be associated with the prognosis of manycancers. 19,36,37 To our best knowledge, this was the first study to prove that FAR was of great significance in predicting the prognosis of ICC. Moreover, FAR would be a valuable biomarker for predicting the prognosis of ICC, because it can be easily obtained from peripheral blood examinations.…”

“…To date, the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system remains the gold standard for predicting prognosis and guiding GC treatment decisions ( 5 ). However, the high heterogeneity leads to different outcomes among patients with the same TNM stage and treatments ( 6 ). Therefore, it is imperative to investigate the in-depth molecular mechanisms involved in GC occurrence and development to identify novel prognostic biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets.…”
