OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship of p53 and Ki67 expression with prognostic factors in patients who underwent surgery due to a diagnosis of endometrial cancer, and to evaluate their use as molecular markers that can help with survival prediction. STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective cohort study included patients who underwent surgery for endometrial cancer indication at the Gynecologic Oncology Clinic of the University of Health Sciences Tepecik Training and Research Hospital between 2011 and 2019, and whose p53 and Ki67 from the dissected material were pathologically studied and who underwent pelvic/paraaortic lymph dissection between the relevant dates. RESULTS: The study included 140 patients who met the inclusion criteria, 60% (n=84) of whom had endometrioid type endometrial carcinoma and 40% (n=56) had non-endometrioid type endometrial carcinoma. Estrogen and progesterone receptor positivity was significantly higher in the endometrioid type endometrial carcinoma group (p<0.001 and p<0.001, respectively). The non-endometrioid type endometrial carcinoma group had a high degree of positive staining (+3 and +4 staining) with p53 was 51.8%, while this rate was 11.9% in the endometrioid type endometrial carcinoma group. The non- endometrioid group also had a high degree of positive staining of Ki67 at 51.8%, whereas the endometrioid group had 25%. The total staining rate with p53 and Ki67 was significantly higher in the non-endometrioid type group (p<0.001 and p=0.001, respectively). The mean survival duration was less than six months in cases with high degree positive p53 [57.4±2.7, (52.1-62.8) vs 51.9±5.9, (41.8-61.9)] and the mean survival duration was less than eight months in cases with high degree positive Ki67 [59.6±2.9, (53.8-65.4) vs 51.6±4.3, (43.2-60.1)]. CONCLUSION: p53 and Ki67 can be new markers for the prediction of prognosis and duration in endometrial cancer. The results of this study pave the way for new studies: however, randomized controlled prospective and multi-center studies are needed for immunohistochemical measures to be used as a parameter.

Endometrial endometrioid carcinoma (EEC) represents approximately 75–80% of endometrial carcinoma cases. Three hundred thirty-six patients with EEC followed-up in the authors’ medical center between and 2010–2018 were included in our study. Two hundred seventy-two low- and intermediate- EEC patients were identified using the European Society for Medical Oncology criteria and confirmed by histopathological examination. Recurrence was reported in 17 of these patients. The study group consisted of patients with relapse. A control group of 51 patients was formed at a ratio of 3:1 according to age, stage, and grade, similar to that in the study group. Of the 17 patients with recurrent disease, 13 patients (76.5%) were stage 1A, and 4 patients (23.5%) were stage 1B. No significant difference was found in age, stage, and grade between the case and control groups (p>0.05). Body mass index, parity, tumor size, lower uterine segment involvement, SqD, and Ki-67 index with p<0.25 in the univariate logistic regression analysis were included in the multivariate analysis. Ki-67 was statistically significant in multivariate analysis (p=0.018); however, there was no statistical significance in SqD and other parameters. Our data suggest that the Ki-67 index rather than SqD needs to be assessed for recurrence in patients with low- and intermediate-risk EEC.

Introduction/Objective. The aim of this study is to examine the association of E-cadherin expression and high proliferation index (proIDX) with clinical and pathological indicators of colorectal cancer progression. Methods. The biopsy of 72 patients, obtained by resection of colorectal cancer, was routinely processed at the Institute of Pathology of the Clinical Centre of Montenegro, embedded in paraffin and archived. Based on the archived pathohistological reports, two study groups were formed: the first group (n = 72) consisted of operative biopsies of colorectal cancer, and the control group (n = 72) consisted of biopsies of adjacent non-tumor tissue. Routine hematoxylin-eosin and immunohistochemical ABC method with anti-Ki67 and anti-E-cadherin antibodies was applied on. After quantification of the results for statistical tests, the software package SPSS for Windows (19.0) was used. Results. In colorectal carcinoma, we observed a significant association of proIDX with pT stage, lymph and blood vessel invasion, perineural invasion, lymph node metastases and distant metastases, and Astler-Coller stage tumor disease. We also observed that the absence of E-cadherin was significantly associated with pT stage, lymph and blood vessel invasion, perineural invasion with lymph node metastases, distant metastases, with C2 and D Astler-Coller tumor stage. E-cadherin expression is associated with proIDX with a significantly high, negative correlation coefficient. Conclusion. Our results indicate that it is possible to differentiate patients into groups with a higher or lower risk of developing metastatic disease, based on the expression of Ki67 and E-cadherin.
