The prognostic impact of abnormally expressed, long noncoding RNAs in acute myeloid leukemia: a meta-analysis

Abstract: Objectives: A growing number of studies demonstrate that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) could act as biomarkers to determine the prognosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. Nonetheless, the significance of lncRNAs in AML prognosis remains unclear. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the prognostic indicators of abnormally expressed lncRNAs in AML. Methods: Literature was searched using PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases up to November 10, 2018. Results: Thirteen studies with 2755 individual… Show more

“…Furthermore, NADK2-AS1 and TRAF3IP2-AS levels were elevated in AML patients with t [ 15 , 17 ] or NPM1 mutation. In contrast, AC079466.1 expression was elevated in patients with complex karyotypes or those who lacked the inv [ 16 ] or IDH1-R132/R140 mutation ( Supplementary Figs. S2E–J ).…”

“…Moreover, certain lncRNAs can modulate drug efflux pumps, DNA repair mechanisms, or anti-apoptotic pathways, thereby contributing to chemotherapy resistance. Recently, it was discovered that high- or low-expression of specific lncRNAs is associated with different prognoses, such as survival rates, AML recurrence, and response to AML therapy [ 15 , 16 ]. Their functions in AML make them attractive targets for further research and potential therapeutic interventions.…”

“…However, the role of S100A4 in AML chemoresistance remains unknown. Higher expression of lncRNA Taurine upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) has been correlated with OS and lower complete response (CR) rates in AML patients [64,65]. Recently, Li et al showed that TUG1 was upregulated in ADR-resistant AML patients as compared to ADR-sensitive AML patients.…”
