The prognostic analysis of different metastatic patterns in advanced liver cancer patients: A population based analysis

Abstract: BackgroundThe prognostic impact of different distant metastases pattern in liver cancer is unexplored still now. The aim of this study is to analyze the metastasis patterns and prognosis differences for patients with stage IV liver cancers.MethodsA SEER analysis was performed. Overall survival and cancer-specific survival were calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to further analyze survival outcome and other prognostic factors.ResultsA total of 37526 eligible cas… Show more

“…With respect to pathological stage and tumor characteristics, T Stage, M Stage and tumor size group were related to the prognosis of HCC patients with LN metastasis. Wu et al found that tumor size could be used as an independent risk predictor associated with survival in HCC [46] . In combination with T stage, we grouped the patients according to different tumor sizes and obtained similar conclusions.…”

“…Regarding the choice of covariates and development of the model, patients referred for palliative RT often received oncological treatment and blood work before; hence, we included commonly performed biochemical or hematological markers. Clinical experience has shown that patients with lung cancer generally die earlier than patients with other cancers, such as breast cancer 14 , and patients with certain sites of metastases (e.g., bone only) live longer than patients with others, such as brain and spinal metastases with cord compression [32][33][34][35] . Since no data were available on sites of metastatic diseases, we substituted with irradiation data.…”

“…Rapid progression and high metastatic ability associate with worse survival in patients with HCC (18,19). Apoptosis negatively regulates tumor progression through extrinsic/ intrinsic apoptotic signaling transduction-induced cell death.…”
