This case study aims to explore how male and female Indonesian mathematics teachers enact decision-making processes in teaching High-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Non-random purposive sampling technique was used to select the participants. The participants involved in this study were two Indonesian mathematics teachers who teach HOTS in their classrooms. The participants were chosen from 87 Indonesian mathematics teachers in 23 secondary schools in East Java, Indonesia, who were invited to our survey and confirmed that they taught HOTS and underwent classroom observation. Data were collected from classroom teaching and interview sessions. The data of classroom teaching consisted of a video-audio recording of two meetings and field notes of observation. In the interview session, we recorded the teachers’ responses during semi-structured interviews. We coded and explained our interpretation for each code. We also conducted investigator triangulation by comparing coding and interpretation made by two researchers and discussing them to find the best representation of the meaning of the data. Our findings indicate that both male and female teachers performed four steps of decision making, consisting of giving problems, asking students to solve, checking, and obtaining new ideas. The difference of male and female teachers’ decision-making process is observed in the process of giving problem (non-contextual vs contextual), how they ask students to solve and check the solution (individual vs group), and the criteria of the new idea of problem-solving (correct vs the best solution). The study findings can be a catalyst for enacting decision-making steps in teaching HOTS. Also, these can be a reflective practice for mathematics teachers to improve their teaching quality.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan penalaran kuantitatif dalam proses generalisasi dan cara siswa dalam menghubungkan kuantitas. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif eksploratif. Penelitian dilakukan pada siswa sekolah menengah (kelas 9) di daerah kabupaten Bima, Nusa Tenggara Barat. Penelitian ini melibatkan 35 orang siswa yang telah memperoleh materi pecahan sebagai subjek penelitian. Subjek yang deskripsikan pada hasil penelitian sebanyak 2 orang yang merepresentasikan dari subjek penelitian dan dilakukan proses seleksi dengan memberikan tes berupa soal pemecahan masalah pecahan sebanyak 2 nomor. Siswa yang terpilih berdasarkan representasi pemecahan masalah dan atas rekomendasi dari guru matematika terhadap siswa yang memiliki kemampuan menjelaskan secara lisan. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dari hasil representasi siswa dan hasil wawancara, kemudian dianalisis secara komprehensif untuk mengidentifikasi penalaran kuantitatif siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukan: 1) penalaran kuantitatif siswa dapat menghasilkan generalisasi pola bilangan; 2) siswa menghubungkan kuantitas dengan menggunakan rasio ekuivalen; 3) siswa merepresentasikan masalah pecahan dapat menggunakan bentuk kesetaraan. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa kuantitas atau unit dari pecahan matematika dapat membentuk suatu pola bilangan melalui proses perbandingan kuantitas.

Abstrak: Seorang calon guru sangat perlu untuk memiliki kemampuan berpikir kreatif guna memberikan pembelajaran dalam pendidikan yang inovatif sehingga siswa yang diajarkan memiliki kemampuan berpikir kreatif untuk menghadapi tantangan di masa depan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan berpikir kreatif mahasiswa calon guru pada mata kuliah trigonometri secara daring berbantuan google classroom. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif yang dilakukan pada mahasiswa S1 Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Negeri Malang angkatan 2020 semester gasal tahun ajaran 2020/2021. Tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif diberikan pada 37 mahasiswa, kemudian dipilih tiga mahasiswa dengan mempertimbangkan kemampuan matematika pada tugas yang diberikan sebelum pemberian tes berpikir kreatif menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Setelah proses analisis dilakukan, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa kategori tinggi memenuhi tiga aspek kemampuan berpikir kreatif seperti kelancaran, keluwesan, dan kebaruan. Mahasiswa kategori sedang memenuhi dua aspek kemampuan berpikir kreatif seperti keluwesan dan kebaruan. Sedangkan mahasiswa kategori rendah tidak memenuhi aspek indikator kemampuan berpikir kreatif sama sekali. Aspek keluwesan dan keunikan kemampuan berpikir kreatif yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa kategori tinggi dan sedang salah satunya dipengaruhi oleh pemanfaatan pembelajaran daring berbantu google classroom.Kata kunci: Berpikir Kreatif; Calon Guru; Google ClassroomAbstract: A prospective teacher ought to have the ability to think creatively to provide learning in innovative education, with the expectation to build the students’ ability to think creatively in facing challenges in the future. The purpose of this study was to describe the creative thinking skills of prospective teacher students in online trigonometry courses assisted by Google Classroom. The type of this research is a descriptive qualitative research conducted on Undergraduate Mathematics Education students at State University of Malang, class 2020 odd semester, 2020/2021 academic year. The test of creative thinking ability was given to 37 students, then three students were selected for the research subject. The considerations were based on their mathematical ability on the pre-assessment test beforehand using purposive sampling technique. After the analysis process was conducted, the results showed that the high category students fulfilled three aspects of creative thinking abilities such as fluency, flexibility, and novelty. Students in the middle category fulfill two aspects of creative thinking skills such as flexibility and novelty. Meanwhile, the low category students did not meet the indicator aspects of the ability to think creatively at all. Aspects of flexibility and uniqueness of creative thinking skills possessed by high and medium category students are influenced by online learning system assisted by Google Classroom.
