The Problems of Separating Education from Practice

Abstract: In the next few issues we shall be highlighting some controversial topics in nurse education. Here, Dr Dorothy Kergin discusses the problems for learners and teachers created by the organizational separation of nurse education and nurse practice in Canada. Methods of bridging the gap at McMaster University include the establishment of communication channels, informal sharing of responsibilities and the funding of joint appointments.
