A review of the contemporary methods used by printers, on a world‐wide basis, to produce discharge print effects is given in this paper. Discharge‐resist and ‘true’ resist methods are also included as developments in these areas have been a recent trend. Prints produced by these methods are, in many cases, indistinguishable from prints produced by conventional discharge methods using reducing agents.
A review of the major literature and patent situation over the last fifteen years is given, together with an indication of possible future trends.
