The primary cilium of telocytes in the vasculature: electron microscope imaging

Abstract: Blood vessels are highly organized and complex structure, which are far more than simple tubes conducting the blood to almost any tissue of the body. The fine structure of the wall of blood vessels has been studied previously using the electron microscope, but the presence the telocytes associated with vasculature, a specific new cellular entity, has not been studied in depth. Interestingly, telocytes have been recently found in the epicardium, myocardium, endocardium, human term placenta, duodenal lamina prop… Show more

“…Generally, vascular TCs seem to have a typical morphology, with some exceptions (45,46). Cell bodies of TCs located in aortic arch were smaller (range from 6.06 μm to 13.02 μm in length and from 1.05 μm to 4.25 μm in width), with high nuclear/cytoplasm ratio (47).…”

“…So far, immunohistochemical markers used for identifi cation of vascular TCs include CD34, vimentin and PDGFR-β (17,45). Expression of c-kit (CD117), along with Nanog and Sca-1 (which are histochemical markers characteristic for stem cells) was also confi rmed in vascular telocytes (17).…”
