Abstract:Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a breathing disorder characterized by repetitive apneas and hypopneas during sleep. 1 It is due to sustained or intermittent, partial or complete airway obstruction, that may be due to the relaxation of the muscles which surround the throat and tongue, 2 which interrupts normal sleep patterns and are often associated with provocations, sleep breakup, intermittent hypoxia and or hypercapnia, along with serious neurobehavioral and cardiorespiratory consequences.
