The Prevalence of CYP2C8, 2C9, 2J2, and Soluble Epoxide Hydrolase Polymorphisms in African Americans With Hypertension

Abstract: These results suggest that these epoxygenase-related SNP are not associated with increased risk of hypertension in the African American population. There was significant linkage disequilibrium between CYP2C8*3 and CYP2C9*2 alleles that was not associated with hypertension.

“…In a Chinese population, plasma levels of 14,15-dihydroxyeicosatrienoic acid were found significantly lower in CYP2J2*7 T allele carriers than the in GG subjects (table 1) [67]. In a case-control study in African American, several SNPs in CYP genes, including the CYP2J2*7, were studied and no association was found with hypertension [57].…”

“…[19][20][21][22] This is contradicting with the present study and the study done in African American population. 4 This probably may be due to differences in ethnicity, 12 which is an important factor attributed to clinical outcomes. Pharmacogentic variations in genes encoding CYP enzymes are increasingly important as it elucidates interand intra-ethnic differences owing to the therapeutic response, adverse events, prognosis, and disease susceptibility.…”

“…This is in accordance with previous studies. 4,19 However, similar studies in larger and different populations must be carried out to conclude the role of CYP genes in association with hypertension. …”

“…By contrast, a decreased risk of EH was reported by Lorraine M. King in Caucasian males carrying CYP2J2 variant alleles (rs890293) [12]. There was a study suggesting no significant association between the polymorphism of CYP2J2 (rs890293) and EH [17]. Based on the above study background, we aimed to assess the association between the polymorphism of CYP2J2 and EH in a Han and Uygur Population of China.…”
