“…Furthermore, a study from 8 countries found that 28% of patients with psoriasis experience alexithymia [ 8 ]. Notably, the prevalence of alexithymia in patients with fibromyalgia ranges from 15% to 52% [ 13 ]. A case-control study conducted on 240 women with infertility (120 with PCOS and 120 without PCOS) in Iran using depression and TAS-20 scales showed that the mean total scores of alexithymia symptoms in women with PCOS were significantly higher than of those without PCOS [ 14 ].…”

“…The term alexithymia has been translated from Greek to mean “wordlessness for emotions” ( López-Muñoz and Pérez-Fernández, 2020 ). Since its introduction, this complex phenomenon has been investigated in chronic conditions ( Martino et al, 2020a , b ; Tang et al, 2022 ), psychosomatic disorders ( Nakao and Takeuchi, 2018 ), and psychopathology ( De Berardis et al, 2008 ; Sagar et al, 2021 ). Research has widely demonstrated that alexithymia may contribute to the impairment of biological, psychological, and social domains in individuals, increasing the risk of comorbidity and mortality among subjects affected by chronic diseases ( Kojima et al, 2010 ; Kojima, 2012 ; Vadini et al, 2019 ).…”

“…COVID-19 period was marked not only with increased numbers of depression but also with anxiety disorders ( 46 , 47 ) accompanied with certain cognitive difficulties attributed to the COVID-19 infection ( 48 ) or, such as inflexible thinking style, to personality features ( 49 ). Several other characteristics, such as stigmatization ( 50 , 51 ) and alexithymia ( 52 – 57 ) have been shown to predict psoriasis symptom worsening as well as impaired OoL. Unfortunately, due to the brevity of our survey, we have not included these factors which might have also contributed to the prediction of symptom worsening and impaired QoL in our study design.…”
