The preparation of potassium octacyanotungstate(IV) dihydrate

Abstract: K4W(CN)8 · 2 H2O was prepared by the reduction of WO 42− (in potassium cyanide medium) by KBH4. The reduction proceeds on the slow, drop‐by‐drop addition of concentrated acetic acid. The synthesis is simple and efficient because the reduction and complexation are accomplished at the same time.

“…The potential of the solution was controlled by an HSV-100 potentiostat (Hokuto Denko, Japan) with two redox mediators, K 4 Fe(CN) 6 (Wako, Japan) and K 4 W(CN) 8 , with redox potentials 0.23 and 0.32 V, respectively. K 4 W(CN) 8 was synthesised as reported previously [34]. The two mediators are convenient for spectroscopic titration of CueO since they have no absorption bands in either the oxidised or reduced forms between 550-750 nm, where the T1 site shows an absorption band in the oxidised form.…”

“…The precursors K 4 [M(CN) 8 ]$2H 2 O (M ¼ Mo, W) were made according to previously published procedures [10]. The precursor K 4 [Nb(CN) 8 ]$2H 2 O was prepared using a procedure slightly modified compared to the literature [11].…”

“…As a typical octacyanometalate-based CP, Mn 2 W(CN) 8 ·xH 2 O, with a three-dimensional network structure, crystallizes in a tetragonal system. [31] Its magnetic and porous properties were also reported in previous studies. [31] However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no report on the preparation of Figure 2 shows scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of the sample, from which it can be clearly seen that the sample is composed of a great number of uniform square microplatelets.…”
