Abstract: A kind of nano template catalyst was prepared through loading the active compound (m-CH 3 PhO)TiCl3 on carbon nanotubes (CNTs). This catalyst can catalyze (co)polymerization of ethylene to form CNTs/polyethylene (PE) nanocomposites particles. The nano template catalyst showed high catalytic activity up to 5.8 kg/(gTi.h.p) for the copolymerization of ethylene with 1-hexene. In this study, high-density polyethylene tubes with the incorporation of ibuprofen (IBP) were investigated with a view to their application as urinary catheters. The melt extrusion process was used to prepare the urinary catheters, and the influence of the manufacturing parameters on the material properties was evaluated. Samples prepared at lower temperature resulted in a more homogeneous material with a smoother surface, lower crystallinity, and better mechanical properties. The drug release was faster in the first 4 days, due to the accumulation of the drug on the outer surface of tubes. The concentration of IBP released was similar to the drug content in commercially available topic formulations (5%). Furthermore, after 2 days of immersion, the release achieved the concentration known to inhibit bacterial growth (6 mg/mL). These characteristics indicate that this material has good potential for application in urinary catheters.

The peculiarity of formation of Ziegler-type catalytic systems prepared using organoaluminum (AlR 3 ) and organomagnesium (MgR 2 ) on the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was revealed. We have found first AlR 3 and MgR 2 interact with different sites on MWCNT surface. It was demonstrated by IR spectroscopy that organoaluminum compounds were immobilized on the hydroxylcontaining groups on MWCNT surface. Organomagnesium compounds were immobilized on the topological structural defects of MWCNTs; hydroxyl-containing groups were not required for their immobilization. Further interaction between TiCl 4 and organomagnesium compound immobilized on the MWCNT surface yielded a catalyst containing titanium and magnesium chlorides (an analogue of the known titaniummagnesium catalysts), which exhibits an enhanced activity in ethylene polymerization. The effect of polymerization conditions on molecular weight characteristics of polyethylene in the MWCNT/PE composite material produced by in situ polymerization over the catalyst immobilized on the MWCNT surface was studied.
