The Preloading Effects on Fatigue Strength and Fatigue Life

Abstract: On the basis of principle of critical energy, one establishes a general relation for the correlation of the mechanical properties with the deterioration due to preloading. The effect of preloading and its sign on the fatigue strength and fatigue life is evaluated. The influence of thermal fatigue preloading on high temperature mechanical characteristics of a Cr-Mo steel quasi-static loaded was investigated.

“…For strain exceeded yield strain, like in the case of LCF, the total participation is the sum of the individual participations of strain amplitude and mean strain, namely Generally, the participation of specific energy is defined as the ratio between effective specific energy, E j , and its critical value, E j,cr (Jinescu 2011) where δj=1; 0 or-1 if the energy E j is in the same sense with the process, has no effect upon or opposes the process or phenomenon. The specific energy is For material behavior given by equation (3) The critical values (σcr;ɛcr) refer to failure, buckling, resonance, etc.…”

“…It needs to use another method of superposition which is appropriate to effects superposition in the case of nonlinear behavior. Such a method is based on the principle of critical energy, which has been used for effects superposition when the structure material behaves nonlinear (Jinescu, 1989, 2011, Jinescu, 2012, 2013b, 2013c; Jinescu et al., 2013a,).…”
