The predictive value of intra‐left atrial mechanical delay for 1‐year recurrence of atrial fibrillation after catheter ablation: A clinical follow‐up study using dual Doppler echocardiography

Abstract: Intra-left atrial mechanical delay best predicted 1-year AF recurrence after RFCA. Compared with tTDI, DDE can noninvasively assess single-beat atrial mechanical delay with high predictive power, less analysis time, and better reproducibility.

“…The development of atrial fibrillation (AF) after cardiac surgery has been associated with poor cardiac outcome . Several variables, including inflammatory mediators, age, or left ventricular (LV) function, have been shown to be involved in the development of post‐operative atrial fibrillation (POAF) . Sympathetic system activation may also be associated with POAF development, which has been reported to be reduced by the use of beta‐blockers before the procedure.…”

“…1 Several variables, including inflammatory mediators, age, or left ventricular (LV) function, have been shown to be involved in the development of post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF). [2][3][4] Sympathetic system activation may also be associated with POAF development, which has been reported to be reduced by the use of beta-blockers before the procedure. Many associated predictors such as left atrial (LA) volume, LV ejection fraction, or left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS) have thus been described, and can be measured by echocardiography before the procedure.…”

“…Moreover, PA-TDI > 145 ms (93.8% sensitivity and 90.5% specificity) was shown to predict AF in patients with cryptogenic stroke [67]. Also, intra (left) atrial mechanical delay obtained with simultaneous recording of Doppler waveforms at two different sites (tissue Doppler echocardiography) may predict AF recurrence [68].…”

“…The evaluation of ACT or atrial conduction delay (ACD) has been informative with respect to the propensity for the development and recurrence of atrial fibrillation. Thus, assessment of the inhomogeneity in ACT or the ACD has also received attention (Maff e et al 2015;Müller et al 2017;Zhou et al 2018). The gold standard for measurement of ACT is the electrophysiology study (EPS), which is an invasive procedure.…”
