The Potential Role of Serum Tau Protein (MAPT), Neuronal Cell Adhesion Molecule (NrCAM) and Neprilysin (NEP) in Neurodegenerative Disorders Development in Psoriasis—Preliminary Results

Abstract: Psoriasis is one of the most common dermatoses, which shortens patients’ lives because of the wide comorbidity. However, little is known about its association with neurodegenerative diseases (NDs). We aimed to investigate whether psoriatics are at increased risk of NDs. Sixty patients with plaque-type psoriasis were enrolled into the study. Serum concentrations of tau protein (MAPT), neuronal cell adhesion molecule (NrCAM) and neprilysin (NEP), which are NDs biomarkers and have been hardly studied in psoriasis… Show more

“…Interestingly, some of these genes (e.g. HLA-C, HLA-B, TAP2, MAPT, and NOTCH4) have been previously linked to the pathogenesis of psoriasis [88][89][90][91] . We propose that the protein-protein interactions we identi ed contribute to a common pathway disruption, potentially leading to psoriatic symptoms in a subset of JIA patients -a condition referred to as juvenile psoriatic arthritis.…”

“…In Canada, teledermatology (TD) offers a promising solution for enhancing dermatological care in rural and remote communities. [1][2][3] There are noted discrepancies in rural and remote geographical access to dermatological care that highlight a severe and urgent inequity in Canada. Additionally, Indigenous peoples are more likely to be in rural and remote areas compared to the general population, adding to further inequity.…”

“…1 However, conflicting findings exist, with some studies finding weak or no association. 2,3 As such, the relationship between prevalence and disease progression remains controversial. Notably, treatment may influence this relationship as systemic therapy for psoriasis has been found to reduce PD risk.…”
