The potential opportunities for using wood biomass in energy production

Abstract: This paper presents results of a meta-analysis on the theoretical and economic aspects of using wood biomass for the production of energy in Poland. The source data used in the analyses were obtained from various official sources and statistics as well as previously published scientific studies. The results lead to the conclusion that the wood biomass supplied for energy production in the year 2012 amounted to a total of 18 million cubic meters, of which forestry supplied 6.8 million m3, the wood industry 6.5 … Show more

“…Therefore, the potential of fuel wood for the studied forest district was 44,143 m 3 compared to just 12,427 m 3 obtained in 2019. In turn, the share of fuel wood, at 10.8% in relation to the total harvested volume, was slightly lower than the long-term average for the State Forests in Poland, which was 11.3% for 2003-2012 [32]. Such a result indicated a general tendency to leave a significant part of the biomass of harvested trees in the forest.…”

“…The assessment of potential (theoretical, technical, and economic) opportunities for using wood biomass for energy purposes is based on available natural resources, economic efficiency, and their utilization based on market-available technologies [29]. The subject of the research is forest/wood biomass, including primary (wood from forests-fuel wood (FW), forest residues (tree tops, branches)) and secondary (wood The assessment of potential (theoretical, technical, and economic) opportunities for using wood biomass for energy purposes is based on available natural resources, economic efficiency, and their utilization based on market-available technologies [29].…”

“…At present, the focus of available energy is a renewable natural resource -biomass energy, which is an indispensable part of many other sources of renewable energy [1,2], especially wood [3,4], plant or plant source material [5,6], many processes can be used to produce bioenergy [7,8]. Biomass is highlighted as one of the promising RES that solve environmental problems and can replace the energy consumption of fossil fuels [9][10][11].…”
