Smart cities provide an efficient infrastructure for the enhancement of the quality of life of the people by aiding in fast urbanization and resource management through sustainable and scalable innovative solutions. The penetration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in smart cities has been a major contributor to keeping up with the agility and pace of their development. In this paper, we have explored Natural Language Processing (NLP) which is one such technical discipline that has great potential in optimizing ICT processes and has so far been kept away from the limelight. Through this study, we have established the various roles that NLP plays in building smart cities after thoroughly analyzing its architecture, background, and scope. Subsequently, we present a detailed description of NLP's recent applications in the domain of smart healthcare, smart business, and industry, smart community, smart media, smart research, and development as well as smart education accompanied by NLP's open challenges at the very end. This work aims to throw light on the potential of NLP as one of the pillars in assisting the technical advancement and realization of smart cities.

Znanstvena monografija Transformacija kadrovskega managementa razčlenjuje področja delovanja kadrovskega managementa, ki so bila izpostavljana zadnja leta spremembam v okolju. V sklopu kadrovskega managementa se uporabljajo novi pristopi in načini delovanja, ki izhajajo iz možnosti uporabe informacijske tehnologije in sprememb na globalnem tegu dela. Vsebina znanstvene monografije Transformacija kadrovskega managementa razčlenjuje problematiko izzivov dolgožive družbe, ki na področju kadrovskega managementa zahteva vpeljavo sprememb načinov dela starejših zaposlenih. To zahteva prilagoditev ključnih delovnih ciljev delovnih mest, kar poseže v definiranje in preoblikovanje opisov delovnih mest. Pričajoča znanstvena monografija obravnava tudi spremembe v delovanju zaposlenega zaradi razvoja informacijske tehnologije. Le ta je povzročila spremembe v delovanju zaposlenega, ki ga zaradi različnih načinov dela imenujemo hibridni zaposleni in ga lahko primerjamo z hibridnim potrošnikom. Uporaba sodobnih tehnologij je uvedla spremembe tudi na področju izobraževanja, ki omogočajo kadrovskemu managementu razvoj pametnih učnih okolij in s tem individualen način učenja.

Designing a Mobile Game Based on Augmented Reality Application for Learning Media

Designing games for educational purposes needs to consider various aspects that help lead to the making of a good game. This study aims to describe users’ responses towards the potential of the game for blended learning, the design stages and the trial which encompass pre-design input taking, design stages, trial, and evaluation. The inputs from the pre-design stage have been the basis for the media design; the trial stage inputs from the prospective users and two experts provide feedback for the validity of media both in content and construct aspects. The research subjects involved 100 Junior high school students, 5 English language teachers, and 1 game design expert. The tools of data collection are questionnaire and semi-structured interview which were developed by the researchers. The intended subject for which this game is designed is reading comprehension and the study is planned to be conducted in approximately eight months. Both types of feedback were used to evaluate the readiness of the media for the real use for blended learning model. The results showed that the validity in content and construct aspects were both very good. The trial result also suggests that the game is considered a decent product, attractive and easy to use for independent learning. Thus, the final evaluation suggests that the media is readily usable for the real context of blended learning.
