The potential impact data of Tylosin and Enrofloxacin veterinary antibiotics on germination and accumulation in barley seed as a forage crop and good dietary sources using LC/MS-MS

Abstract: In this study, the phytotoxic effects caused by the exposure to five different concentrations of two veterinary antibiotics (Tylosin, and Enrofloxacin) that are commonly used for the treatment of farm animals as antibacterial agents were considered. The impact of antibiotic residues was evaluated on the germination percentage, accumulation, and seedling elongation of the barley seeds using Petri dishes under controlled environmental conditions. The treatments were distributed randomly using Completely Randomiz… Show more

“…This observation was consistent with previous investigations that the FQs were frequently detected in cultured aquatic products, indicating their common occurrence in the commercial fish ( He et al., 2016 ; Liu et al., 2022 ). Consideration of the ciprofloxacin as the main metabolite of enrofloxacin ( Xu et al., 2006 ; Elezz et al., 2019 ), the sum of the detection frequency for ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin was calculated to evaluate the sample. As a result, 98% of the positive samples were detected containing enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin or both antibiotics, with the concentration ranging from 2.17 µg/kg to 90.8 µg/kg ( Figure 2 ), which were lower than the maximum residue limit (MRL) of 100 µg/kg for the sum of the concentration for these two antibiotics.…”

“…Seeds are considered germinated upon radical emergence, germination is determined by counting the number of germinated seeds each two days interval over a 6–8 days period to observe the germination rate. After eight days, the germination percentage (GP) was determined by counting the number of seeds germinated during the period of the experiment over the total number of seeds based on Equation (2), [5]. …”

“…Number of germinated seeds was observed weekly in three weeks, then germination percentage was calculated by counting the number of seeds germinated over the total number of seeds based on Equation (2), [5]. After plant maturity, data were recorded for growth parameters including the number of shoots, root lengths (cm), number of spikes, plant height, fresh and dry weights (g/plant), stem diameter (mm), as well as a number of leaves.…”
